At times accessing remote files becomes a necessity using FTP. For instance while Forgot Password option on WordPress website is an easier way to retrieve password, yet at times, it might not work. Making changes to functions.php file under activated theme folder then is a definitive solution. We keep limited to accessing remote files for this video.
Once FileZilla is installed, in case you face hurdle regarding knowing what to enter into Host, User Name fields, you should get in touch with the support. In my case for the above video, it is NameCheap Support that by my experience provides stellar support over chat/ticket.
Now, the motivation for accessing remote files/server for WooSplendid.com was to complete properly the migration process initiated using free version of UpdraftPlus backup plugin. (It is only later that I found that free UpdraftPlus is only for backup and not exactly for migration. Going forward, I would recommend Migrate Guru, free migration plugin).
The migration process with UpdraftPlus is through WordPress admin dashboard. You take backup of the five files for complete backup.
Free version can be installed directly from WordPress admin dashboard.
In my case, it is already installed.
Now, we need to move to the WP admin dashboard of the website where we intend to migrate. I assume that an instance of WordPress website is already installed which can be a new instance or any existing WordPress website which will be given a fresh look with the migrated files.
You need to install free version of UpdraftPlus plugin on this WordPress website as well.
Now, there are two options to upload backup files. If file size is small, Upload Backup Files process may well underwent swiftly from the WordPress admin dashboard. Actually, this is the easy way. But if the file size is large and your hosting memory/configuration not sufficient, the way recommended is through FTP.
What might happen is you face hurdle uploading Uploads file in particular as this is the largest file in size (images posted on posts/pages go to this file). As happened on the screenshot, I could not upload Uploads file. That led to text contents, plugins, and theme well showing but posts and pages without images. For the Uploads file, I took recourse to FTP option. In fact once you are comfortable using FTP, it is better to upload all the five files through FTP.
While as earlier mentioned, MIgrate Guru instead of free UpdraftPlus should be chosen for migration, yet I could manage the redirecting error (not sure if there are any other issues that still there) that was the result of using the free UpdraftPlus plugin after migration. Here is the thread.
